GAL4
The GAL4/UAS system is a key tool for studying gene expression and function in yeast, particularly involving galactose-induced genes. In this system, the Gal4 transcription factor serves as a positive regulator, recognizing and binding to the upstream activating sequence (UASG) present in the promoters of target genes. The GAL genes, essential for yeast growth in a galactose-rich environment, include both structural genes (such as GAL1, GAL2, GAL7, and GAL10) and regulatory genes (GAL4, GAL80, and GAL3). The activation of these genes relies on Gal4, which binds to UASG and initiates transcription, ensuring the expression of genes necessary for galactose transport and its metabolism through glycolysis.
